September 2022 The Elusive 1/4" seam without gadgets

Some of the nicest improvements in sewing machines over the years continues to be the ability to make adjustments.  We all want our work to be the best we have to offer and so most of us buy expensive feet for our machines to help us along. Since cleaning out my sewing studio I’ve been focusing on NOT purchasing additional items I’ll be needing to find a place for.

Quilters are always on the look out to sew a perfect 1/4″ seam.  I decided to settle this dilemma once and for all.  I now use a ruler to measure the exact distance from the edge of my presser foot to the needle.  I then move the needle to accommodate the 1/4″ seam.  It’s fast, free, easy to manage, I don’t need to be searching for my 1/4″ foot and it works every time.
