Quilting Arts Summer ’22 Challenge

Reflections

My family reunites in Long Boat Key, Florida, yearly in tribute to my Dad who passed away in 2014. While my Mom continues her 40+year quest to photograph the elusive green flash, I continue to observe my Mom’s strength, courage, and tenacity in my attempt to become the woman I aspire to be. In my rendition, the green flash reflects on my Mom as I reflect on our mother-daughter relationship. Here, I’ve given my Mom the gift of the green flash.

This piece began as a photo I took of my Mom.

I chose to work with felt in order to take advantage of the rich deep colors of the wool. The background was wet felted and then machine felted. Details in the foreground were needle felted as was the green flash radiating off of my Mom.
